South African Case
In the South African case we will critically examine conflicts arising from ‘Blue growth’ initiatives in South Africa’s coastal and marine environment. We will also explore alternative pathways and governance approaches to “growing the blue economy” that minimize conflicts, engage all key actors and integrate sustainability, equity and benefit sharing principles in decision-making. A key focus will be on generating knowledge and building capacity to enhance involvement of coastal communities in ocean governance.
